[livejournal.com profile] copperiisulfate and I were talking yesterday about how ~sexy times~ tend to get more attention than friendship on TV and in fandom, and what a shame that can be. (Although a pretty delightful and understandable shame.) So I was thinking that maybe it would be fun to celebrate good old-fashioned friend time in a comment ficathon. Which will either be super jolly, or super super lame. I can't quite decide. But I figure it's worth a shot! And really, it's always just fun to have an excuse to make up prompts.

Ergo ...

the yay for friendship! comment ficathon

RULES, or whatever

1. Despite the general concept, I think the pairings this can apply to are pretty widespread. Friendship is an important component of romantic love, after all! I guess the bottom line is to focus the fic more on buddydom than makeouts & such? (Basically: this is your spinster aunt's comment ficathon. I'm [livejournal.com profile] dollsome, I'm worse than everybody's aunt.)

2. Prompts should basically have a 'Fandom -- pairing or characters -- prompt' format.

3. If you reply to a prompt, please put the fandom, pairing/characters, and title in your comment's subject line!

4. Be nice; have fun! :D

5. If you'd like to spread the word--

Dave had managed, with no small degree of effort, to avoid absorbing much from Hummel's in-services about musicals, Bette Davis, and documentaries. But he knew Santana, and he sort of knew the basics of West Side Story, and she was amazing. She moved with purpose across the stage, electric and charming and commanding. She didn't steal scenes so much as smile and wink and tuck them into her dress pocket.

All the rest of the cast looked like chumps. Though clearly, he was a little biased.

When the applause finished and he headed backstage, Santana was in deep conversation with one of the extras, a tall, lanky redhead who had the misfortune to have the most weird-looking brunette wig stuck on her head. Dave began to wave to get Santana's attention...then saw the redhead brush her hand down Santana's arm, leaning forward as she did so, and saw Santana's reaction, a variation of all the flirty stuff she'd been doing on stage with a sharper Santana edge which included a quick swat to the girl's ass.

He'd stopped in his tracks, but Santana eventually spotted him, barrelling over with that intimidating, years-of-competitive-cheerleading sprint that always managed to make him jumpy... even after years of knocking over, and being knocked over by, 200-plus-pound dudes. She leapt into his arms, crushing the bouquet he'd brought all the way from the Whole Foods in Cleveland (you had to give it to the granola set; they were much pickier about flowers than Nielsen's Convenience Store).

"Aww, Santana, come on," Dave dropped her without ceremony and thrust the mashed daisies and assorted whatevers at her.

She rapidly and dismissively said, "That was really sweet. Thank you. I'm sorry. Now come over here." Santana dragged him three steps and said, with more delight than he'd heard in her voice...well, ever, "Dave, this is Misty; Misty, this is my best friend, Dave."

Taken aback that that was how Santana thought of him--her former beard, prom date two years running, and the guy who had abandoned Lima for college and Cleveland--Dave couldn't help staring at Santana while shaking Misty's hand and distractedly saying, "Hi."

"Hi. Santana's told me all sorts of nice stuff about you," Like Dave, Misty said this to Santana, her freckles practically screaming, "Do me."

It was pretty embarrassing.

"I was just telling Misty that as much as I'd love to go to the cast party, you and I are going to go hang out at my place for the rest of the night," Santana put her arm on Dave's, and he tried reading what she was telling him with her expression, which was glowing but also oddly blank.

"Well...we'll miss you," Misty said, clearly indicating with her tone that she would miss Santana most of all. "I'll text you."

Yeah, probably, like, a billion times, Dave thought to himself.

"Have fun!" Santana signed off cheerily. Then, when Misty was a safe distance away, mingling with a big group of cast members, Dave lowered his voice and asked, "What's the whole deal with that? Don't you want to...?" He uncomfortably let the rest of the sentence hang in the air while he looked at the miserable bouquet in Santana's hands.

"Ugh, don't be an idiot. I can bang her anytime I want to, at this point. You're only ever in town when I make you come back these days." She pushed his shoulder mockingly, but he could see a sincere disappointment in her expression.

"We could go to the cast party. I could find something to do with mys..."

"Shut up about it already, Dave. I said I can get some anytime I want. Do you doubt I can get some anytime I want?"

He rolled his eyes and returned her shove, saying sarcastically, "No, I don't doubt it, because you're the hottest girl in Ohio. Probably in the Midwest. Or maybe the world."

She pouted and smoldered at him for a moment. "Like you even know. Let's get out of here."

Dave put his arm around her shoulder and walked her towards the exit. As they passed Misty, who was waving her phone and making eyes at his best friend, he said into her hair, "Bros before hos... you're about the most stand-up guy I know, Lopez."

He couldn't see her face, but he could imagine her proud expression when she replied, "Don't you fucking doubt it for a minute."

Oh my Godddddd, I am never going to be able to look at them on the show again without feeling all 'I have seen your future, and in it you are the BEST BROS EVER' and maybe crying a little! ♥ This made me so happy. Just gorgeous.

I didn't even know I wanted this, but now I do. And badly! Oh, this was all kinds of wonderful. If Santana & Karofsky don't become epic BFFs now, I will be severely disappointed! <3333333333
