It’s Michael’s birthday, and Pam’s in the middle of lighting the candles on the cake, a duty that’s been bequeathed to her by an especially waspish Angela. Kelly’s supposed to be helping. Toby’s not sure why he’s here. It’s as good enough a place to be as any, he figures.
“Can you believe McDreamy, though??” Kelly squeals. “I swear, Pam, I almost died. Literally.”
“Wow, Kelly,” Pam says, turning to look at her. “That’s great.”
“No, Pam, you don’t understand!” Kelly insists, waving her hands excitedly. “It was just like, so—”
Not that he’s really watching or anything, but Toby notices that a lock of Pam’s hair is pretty dangerously close to the nearest candle. Without really thinking about it, he reaches out and catches her hair, brushing it back out of harm’s way.
Pam turns to look at him, bewildered.
“The candle,” he explains awkwardly, pulling his hand back fast. “You leaned forward, and it was just about to— so I figured I’d better—”
“Oh my God, I didn’t even notice,” Pam exclaims, and laughs. “You’re my hero, huh?”
He grins sheepishly, and finds that he can’t actually think of anything to say back. She gives him a brief, vibrant smile before refocusing her attention on the cake.

Date: 2007-11-12 01:27 am (UTC)Annoyed with Toby? Does! Not! Compute! Although, honestly, I have been hating on Jim lately, of all people, so I probably shouldn't talk. I KNOW IT'S WRONG AND YET.

Date: 2007-11-12 01:38 am (UTC)I don't hate Jim, but he has a long way to go before he deserves Pam. I think he's starting to realize that, though.

Date: 2007-11-12 01:03 am (UTC)And Kelly would wax on about McDreamy, haha. Wonderful work, as always, my dear.

Date: 2007-11-12 01:28 am (UTC)And I love writing Kelly more than just about anything in this life, but man, does it hurt to have to wax on about McDreamy or Twilight or a number of other things that make me want to go on a murderous rampage. O, the sacrifices I make for my art!!
Thanks for reading, darlin'. :D

Date: 2007-11-12 03:24 am (UTC)OH TOBY. OH PAM. How is she so always oblivious to his smitten-y ways?!?!
I melted from the wonderfulness. Then, again afterwards, I sighed, reminded of the wasted potential since the show chose Jim/Pam as their 'End All, Be All BLAH BLAH BLAH' 'ship. So tragic!
In conclusion: Never, ever stop writing Toby/Pam. Kthnx.
