One of my very favorite fanfictions ever:

Saltwater (http://escritoireazul.livejournal.com/329125.html) by escritoireazul -- Twilight, Jessica and Bella. Sometimes friendship means forgiveness. Sometimes friendship means calling you on your bullshit.

“So I’ve decided to forgive you.” Jessica plops down into the seat next to Bella. It’s not her usual table; her usual table is closer to the center of the room and it’s filled with their friends and it’s loud. Here in the corner, cafeteria noises are somehow muted, the bright overhead lights dim.

Except for the Cullens’ table by the windows. Light gathers there like the memory of sparkling skin. Bella’s seat faces it, and when she looks away, spots of light dance across Jessica’s face.

She blinks, trying to clear her vision.

“Forgive me?” Bella’s voice cracks from disuse. Her throat aches. Her sinuses are full. She doesn’t sound like herself anymore. She doesn’t actually remember how she’s supposed to sound.

“For being an idiot,” Jessica clarifies.

Interestingly, this most high-profile of all episodes of Community focused on Shirley, a character who is often overlooked and underappreciated by fans (and sometimes, it would seem, the writers). Shirley may not be handsome and sly like Jeff, or as goofy and loveable as Troy and Abed, but she is, in her own subtle ways, one of the show’s very best characters. Yvette Nicole Brown has consistently proven her ability to carry dramatic scenes when given a chance. She imbues Shirley with dignity and grace, while always revealing little hints of the tension bubbling just below the surface. Often she may get only a few lines per episode, but she has always made the most of them. The woman has turned the simple phrase “that’s nice” into a flexible jazz riff, capable of conveying pure glee, casual distinterest, or slowly growing terror. In short, she’s awesome. Exactly, its something that the BBC gets so so right every so often. Call the Midwife is a more recent example. It is just so great to see shows with abundant female characters cause then the show can just sort of relax and have lots of interesting people rather than one woman who has to represent All of Women Kind.

I love Dani Reese. Especially season one uptight Dani Reese, who questioned both authority and her weirdo partner who was up to shady stuff! She was awesome. Which is not to say season two Dani was a slouch but they did have to disappear her for a pregnancy and then return her with not very empowering episode moments of being tied to various chairs.
