Winter is coming; daylight is fleeting; for the students among us, end-of-semester hell is just about to rear its ugly head. What better way to combat such woes than with a super-cheerful comment ficathon?

Ergo:

The Rules Are Thus:

1. Cheerful prompts! I feel like there's not much regulation here in terms of pairings: almost every ship or pair of characters is capable of a fluffy/happy/silly moment, and if they're not in canon, then why can't they be in fic? However, any prompt involving, say, lyrics from Eminem and Rihanna's "Love The Way You Lie" is probably not appropriate in terms of tone. Unless it's the "guess that's why they call it WINDOW PANE" line, which will never stop being hilarious.

2. Prompt format should go thus:

Fandom -- Pairing or characters -- prompt

3. For the fic you've written, please put the following in your comment's subject line: 'Fandom -- pairing -- title.'

4. Be nice!

5. Spread the fun, if you are so inclined!

6. Go forth and have a merry happy good time. :)

It's been a while since I watched

He'd even brought pie.

Audrey didn't know whether to laugh or say something sarcastic, but he was smiling and looking so pleased with himself that she had to laugh. The sarcasm would wait.

Pulling out a bottle of champagne with a flourish, Agent Cooper smiled. "This isn't too childish for you?"

"What, a picnic?" Audrey teased, sitting cross-legged on her side of the green and white-striped sheet that looked brand new. She hoped he didn't mind the grass stains and ants sure to come. "I just hope it means you still respect my intelligence."

"Of course I do," he assured her, expertly popping the cork and pouring them both glasses.

She accepted hers with her eyebrow still raised. "Then why a picnic? I'm not a little girl who needs ants and birthday cake, special agent Cooper."

"As a thank you, for your help."

A soft snort escaped her, but Audrey decided that she refused to let the lovely day be brought down by the reality of the situation. "I suppose I should say you're welcome." And he was, if he would simply open his eyes and see her.

But that was another way of spoiling the mood, and she pushed that thought away as well.

He gave a shrug and tipped his glass to her, "To Audrey Horne."

"To special agent Cooper," she retorted.

Their glasses chimed in the air, echoing the sunlight. It was a fanciful notion, and Audrey smiled at it, shifting to kick off her shoes before tucking her feet beneath her and leaning back on her elbow.

"You know, I could get to love days like this," he murmured, stretching out his legs and leaning back to stare up at the trees and sky above them. "There's a simplicity to them. Sunlight, good food, good company..."

"Ants," suggested Audrey prosaically, flicking one of them off the edge of the sheet.

"Nature," he countered, turning onto his side to watch her. "Don't kill them, they're only doing what they're meant to do."

She wrinkled her nose at him, but didn't squish them as he'd requested, she merely moved them around the edge of the sheet before flicking them back into the grass. When she tired of the little game, she looked back across at him. "We should eat before they carry everything off."

"They can have everything but the pie."

A laugh escaped her, "I'll have to remember that, in future. Though, I don't believe that man can live on pie alone."

"That he can't," Cooper agreed, sitting back up and reaching for one of the pieces of fried chicken, busying himself with the cole slaw and licking his fingers when he realized he'd forgotten napkins.

Audrey watched him, storing up the moment to take out at a later date. She wasn't sure what was going on anymore, but perhaps neither was he.

Eeee, Audrey/Cooper! <3 I love this. The peaceful picnic, the uncertainty of the future and their relationship, and even the creepy ants...all of it.

And I think you caught Audrey's whimsy perfectly, which I always appreciate, and Cooper's bordering-on-disturbing cheerfulness, which is what makes him awesome. And the interaction is wonderful, and the last line is just perfect.

=D Your feedback is so squeeful!

Thank you!

Audrey is very hard to write, because she's not just a straight Evil Mean Girl, she's also... Alice in Wonderland. idk. Anyway. Yay!
From: [identity profile] prozacpark.livejournal.com
Well, your fic made me squee, so. <3

I think the Alice in Wonderland comparison is very apt. And she has the beginnings of a possible mean girl, but the lack of a clique (and *any* age-appropriate friends) makes me think that she doesn't really participate in high school hierarchy? I think Audrey is the only teen that we see primarily interacting with adults only and eager to be part of that world instead. (Her mean-ness is very pragmatically directed possibly?) Now I kind of want a fic set in high school because I'm curious to see where Audrey, Laura, and Donna would've fit, and especially where Shelly would have before dropping out.
From: [identity profile] evewithanapple.livejournal.com
I don't think she's a potential Mean Girl per se- she seems like she wouldn't care all that much about high school power games to bother, and she's rarely mean for the sake of it. She sabotages and fights with her father, but that's because of their messed-up family dynamic, not a desire to be cruel. And when she is nasty- like when she threatens the department store manager- it's in the service of a goal of some sort. Like you said, she's more interested in being an adult. That, and I think she's isolated from her classmates- I'm not entirely sure why, but it seems like she's too whimsical and dreamy to connect with them properly, and with too high of a bullshit detector to put up with any kind of pettiness. The reason she bonds with Cooper so well is that he's the same combination of loopy and pragmatic that she is. :P

. . . I have a lot of Thoughts On Audrey. *sheepish*

Now I kind of want a fic set in high school because I'm curious to see where Audrey, Laura, and Donna would've fit, and especially where Shelly would have before dropping out.

Oh, me too! It's unfortunate that the show's twenty years old with a tiny fandom at this point, because I'd really like to see fic exploring the girls and their relationships. This show is so awesome with its variety of female characters, it makes me sad that there isn't more fic for them.
From: [identity profile] prozacpark.livejournal.com
Possible Mean Girl because I think that's one of the types Lynch started working with for Audrey before deconstructing that type a bit? She's mean for the sake of meanness in the pilot, at least (when she spills the coffee over that lady's paperwork), and then Lynch had the plot planned where she was the one who pushed Johnny down the stairs.

But we're in agreement over the end product of what Audrey ended up being. Which is what I meant by her being pragmatically mean. She's mean as a show of power in order to get something she wants, which works for me. And I like that she wants power in the real world, and is not interested in high school politics.

I think her isolation is one of her most defining characteristics? I think this is also a point of connection with Laura, who is also isolated, but in a different way. But I also suspect that Audrey doesn't really interact with people from school (we see her skipping often, for one thing, and she's not friends with Donna or Laura or Shelly.) And yes, Cooper and Audrey are similar in weird ways, which makes the relationship insanely compelling for me.

. . . I have a lot of Thoughts On Audrey. *sheepish*

I rarely get to discuss "Twin Peaks" with people, and so am always happy to do so, especially when it's about Audrey. <3

Yeah, all of the women are so interesting, but there were so many characters that they rarely got to interact (and fiction fails at passing Bechdel's test). The fic possibilities are endless, and it makes me sad that the fandom is old and dead.
From: [identity profile] evewithanapple.livejournal.com
I saw the mean bits in the pilot as her trying for attention as much as anything else. The Johnny thing is interesting though, because when I watched the scene (it's up on YouTube (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=A5-5r56d_D4)) and I saw it as more abuse from her mother than anything else. She spends the first half of the scene trying to stop her from beating him up, and then runs away in tears when she gets the stairs thing thrown in her face. Plus, this supposedly happened when Johnny was nine, which would make her about a year old at the time. Either they meant for her to be a toddler who didn't know what she was doing (and what kind of toddler can push a nine-year-old hard enough to make them fall over?) or someone on the writing staff fudged their arithmetic. ;) But that's what I find so fascinating about her- there's so many tropes that you think she fits in (mean girl, femme fatale, love interest) but she subverts and deconstructs them as much as she fits them.

I find her connection with Laura really fascinating- apparently it was going to be explored more in the second season, but it got shelved for some reason, and we got Ben's descent into Confederate madness instead. Ugh. I do have a half-finished fic about her feelings wrt Laura sitting on my desktop- she's a really complex character to write, but it's a lot of fun to try and figure out what makes her tick.

I rarely get to discuss "Twin Peaks" with people, and so am always happy to do so, especially when it's about Audrey. <3

I know the feeling- I just got into the show a few weeks ago, and I've been running around trying to find fanfic/meta/communities ever since. Mind if I friend you? We should probably stop having OT conversations on [livejournal.com profile] dollsome's post. :P
From: [identity profile] prozacpark.livejournal.com
I will have to find the article I read, but when I watched that scene on YouTube, my impression was that that was an altered version of the original plan. And yeah, the deconstruction is the best bit of "Twin Peaks" and Audrey.

Mind if I friend you? We should probably stop having OT conversations on [info]dollsome's post.

Yeah, that. ;) Friend away, and we shall continue some of this discussion elsewhere.

I think the show set her up as the Mean Girl, actually. But then it meandered around and forgot all about that in the grand scheme of things.
From: [identity profile] prozacpark.livejournal.com
I think Audrey became too popular and they hesitated. She's definitely a Mean Girl in the pilot, and I know that they had a plot planned where Audrey was responsible for her brother's condition (she pushed him off the stairs). Audrey ends up being the ONLY person in "Twin Peaks" who has no deep, dark secret because of that, so yeah, definitely set up to be a lot eviler than they ended up going with. Which I don't mind since I love what they ended up doing with her (although, there really needed to be more of it, and less of...being stuck in subplot hell in season two.)
From: [identity profile] evewithanapple.livejournal.com
being stuck in subplot hell in season two

I place the blame for that partially on Kyle Mclachlan- she and Cooper were originally supposed to get together in season two, which would have given the writers more opportunities to involve her in the main plots, but he objected, so instead we got that teeth-grindingly awful "You'd be in danger if we were together! So run along now" scene that makes me want to hit things whenever I think about it, and she was relegated to hovering in the background of Ben's storylines.
From: [identity profile] evewithanapple.livejournal.com
I have such a huge grin on my face right now. :D Of course he'd bring pie. And the image of him watching her play with the ants- I don't know why, but it's so cute. Thank you so much for this!
ext_18106: (Shelly is happy with gleeee)

huzzah! It was hard to be 'happy' with Twin Peaks, so I'm gleeful that it worked.

Thank you for the prompt that wouldn't let me ignore it! =D
