I love Dateline/Chris Hansen jokes, I do! And I legit think that Jeff's thoughts regarding Annie are constantly censored just in case this very thing happened: DATELINE TRIED TO GET TO THEM.
+ He holds up said pencil case. It’s green, and full of eight .7 pencils in various colors, no big deal, and he feels like he’s standing underneath a balcony throwing pebbles at her window, waiting to see whether she’ll come out. What is this? Is this my SOUL BEING MADE LOVE TO?! Grossly, yes! Oh, this is just way too sweet. He has a pencil case! Why do I find that so charming? I don't know. But I do. I might even be making the same "Oh, Jeff!" sounds that Annie made.
+ ‘It’s no big deal’ is what he means to say, but she looks so happy and so normal that what he says instead is, “We kissed.” / SHIT, thinks Jeff. / OH GOSH, thinks Annie. Basically I am reduced to this: !!!!
+ (she thinks, remembering his hands in her hair, remembering how breathless and lovely and good and accidental and accidentally right it felt, remembering the dark sky and the fairy lights and the wonderful closeness of him, something it hadn’t even dawned on her to hope for, even though she’s always been the expert at hoping for things, hoping far too hard for things) Soooo pretty and sad at the same time. Now I want to watch the finale for the (redacted) time.
And then! And then you give me the hilarity of parenthetical banter about an UNDERWATER BASKETWEAVING CLASS, Jeff still thinking fondly of Britta (!!), Pierce being hilariously in-character which is my second favorite thing to see in fic ("suck it, KFed" = my brain can't handle that AT ALL) -- second behind: TROY (and Abed) BEING HILARIOUS, WHICH, ALERT NERD: HE WAS!!! God, I don't even care that I just used three different forms of the word 'hilarious' in one paragraph, because I SPEAK THE TRUTH, OKAY, REPETITIVELY. And in capslock!
Also, that ending is so perfect I can hardly stand it. Not just because of Troy's question-mark heavy disbelief about Jeff/Annie, which made me laugh out loud for realsie-reals, but because of the needs-to-be-on-the-show moment of Annie getting her loopy, cheerful scribbles on and Jeff getting SMITTEN by that. SMITTEN! Oh, sigh.
(And, also! Abed being all meta with his "sexual tension this season" talk, only to explain it away as "autumn" is BRILLIANT.)
