Fanvid, say what??

This is the first time I have fanvidded in ages, like, over a year. I have come to fear subjecting my poor old computer to the myriad evils of Windows Movie Maker, but some things are worth it, by Jove. (I'm also pretty sure I had homework today. Whoopsies!)

I was totally random in my song selection here, because this one's such a jaunty upbeat ditty about unhealthy relationships & perpetual heartbreak that I never quite thought to associate it with them. But then I just kept going, and going, and going, and now, somehow, there is a fanvid.

Props to oltha_heri, who is the DeWitt/Dom + Florence & The Machine fanvidding pioneer! Go watch her Hardest of Hearts if you haven't already; SO MUCH THAT IS PRETTY.

I feel like I should admit up front for the sake of things like honesty that I possibly went a bit overboard with the whole 'Roger is totally Adelle's substitute Dominic, zomg!' theme. Some things cannot be stopped!

These are all season one clips, so no need to beware of spoilers! Unless, you know, you're really behind.

Okay, seriously, what the hell is going on with those vids? This was AWESOME, too!!! DeWitt/Dom are just SPILLING AWESOMENESS ALL AROUND THEM. And Florence & The Machine? OMG. I loved the chair scenes going together. And how you matched the Dominic and Roger together. And HEARN TORTURE! (there is quite possibly something wrong with us, just you know noting that fact). I also loved the use of the scene with the white shirt (what Adelle's wardrobe is so the easiest way for me to recognize things), you cut that together with the music really well.

You're gonna make me give in and make me vid "Girl With One Eye" and/or "Blinding" aren't you? (I'd include Falling but I've been informed that one's going to be covered, I'll also leave Blinding to you if you want as it was on your mix. Oh Florence stop writing fucked up songs with good beats that go with fucked up ships I love.) I was totally going to mix it up and not use Florence + The Machine (or Tegan & Sara, but different story).

AND JUST KEEP POSTING ALL THE D/D IN THIS VOLUME PLEASE!!!!

And I just wanna check, did you get my comment with the 2x11 footage?

And OH MY GOD, seriously, how is her whole album so applicable it makes my brain want to explode! I totally had that thought about "Girl With One Eye" earlier. I'll cut your little heart out, 'cause you made me cry. I have always tended to associate that song with femmeslashy stuff (yo, Buffy/Faith!) because it's a woman singing about/to a woman, but now that I'm thinking about it, that would be awesome to do from Dom's pov.

AND DO NOT EVEN GET ME STARTED ON "BLINDING." No more dreaming like a girl so in love with the wrong one. Sob! Adelle! Miss Lonelyhearts! And of course the This is a gift, it comes with a price from "Rabbit Heart (Raise It Up)" has always reminded me of their "I trusted you with a gift, Mr. Dominic" / "The Dollhouse isn't a gift" exchange. Okay. Now I'm tempted to see if I can do this for every track on Lungs, jeez! Yeah, that's right, (... nonexistent) CHALLENGE ACCEPTED.

"Hurricane Drunk" - Adelle's downward spiral into alcoholism in season two!

"Dog Days Are Over" has always reminded me of Adelle, especially Leave all your love and your longing behind, you can't carry it with you if you want to survive. And! And I never wanted anything from you except everything you had and what was left after that too exudes total D/D vibes.

"Kiss With A Fist" is totally, like, the musical equivalent of the surge of irrational LOOK AT THOSE BAMFS joy that comes from witnessing, say, THE POWERWALKING.

And, okay, my God, I should stop myself now. Seriously, THEY ARE EATING MY LIFE. I am, however, allowing it to run rampant & unchecked, because our time with them is limited. And therefore it's totally okay to be this crazy!

I usually associate "Girl With One Eye" with femmeslashy too (and Buffy/Faith, squee!) but as I believe we know D/D has eaten my brain. I was seeing it from Adelle's perspective. For me the D/D in "Dog Days" is "Struck from a great height by someone who should know better than that." AND KISS WITH A FIST!!!! If I hadn't spent quite so long on my Uther/Morgana vid to it I totally would be working on a D/D vid for it (as it is I cannot yet listen to that song without the scenes I put to it 'cause I worked on it for way too long).

I love how you intercut the scenes, especially the one in Dr. Saunders' office, Adelle watching Victor and then Adelle/Roger and then Adelle/Laurence. AHEEE. It made my heart go all flaily.

I also like Adelle sitting on the chair cut to Dominic sitting on her chair. Beautifully done.

This song is so beautiful, and so appropriate for them! And to be honest after hearing about Florence all over this comm I actually went on iTunes and bought the album, a decision I now feel very good about because they are so good and also so, so applicable to D/D.

And the editing was so well done! I liked the parts where you let the dialogue go over the music, because you chose the scenes so well and it had a really good impact. And I also like how you interspered the choking-her-on-the-couch-scene with the sex-with-Roger scene, especially the matching shots of her head falling back, that was very nicely done. Also, that is some of the best use of the walking and talking footage yet!

Augh, I know, that line! That whole exchange -- like, the way he says it to her in and of itself totally kills me. It's like, he just resigns himself so awesomely to the fact that this is what she's going to do to him, and seems ... this skewed version of admiring or affectionate or something for a couple seconds. And her answer! It should not even be possible for something to sound so merciless and so poignant at the same time. Aaaaah, Reed Diamond and Olivia Williams!

Not a problem! The only thing I was wondering about was the aspect ratio - did you make this in WMM? It took me ages (and quite a bit of searching) to figure out how to fix it when it was stretching my videos.

(For future reference: Tools > Options > Advanced > Aspect ratio is in the second box down, called 'Video properties'. When you select the other aspect ratio, it will unsquash the video clip(s) being worked on.)
