Exactly, I mean I do identify with that aspect of Robin, it is utterly exhausting. I know I'm biased towards Barney but I always feel like Ted seems to be infallible, except during No Tomorrow, but no one seems to see the way he went after Robin and that whole relationship as anything but super duper romantic and I found the most realistic part of it, the actual he genuinely loves her thing the break up. In fact he really was the small child in with the purple giraffe, that is exactly how he was the whole way through the first 2 seasons and into S3. Sorry, that was a little bit of ramble/rant but that line really did strike a chord with me.
I also finished reading and it's absolutely perfect, methinks Bays and Thomas could take some tips from you!
