Okay! I'm determined. And I am totally going to do the song titles drabble thing again, this time with Patsy Cline because I've been listening to her nonstop lately and she's fabulous.
Buffy, s1, in which there is simply dialogue and Willow/Xander/Buffy love triangle-ness.
Walking after Midnight
"Ya know, Will, I'm not sure I'm all that into the idea of you walking home all alone."
"It'll be fine, Xander. It only takes fifteen minutes."
"Well, yeah, but that's fifteen minutes of neck-hair-prickling terror! Keep in mind that this is vampire happy hour. And I bet you don't have a single crucifix on ya!"
"Well, no, but-- Jewish!"
"We the vampirically aware have a term for that kinda behaviour, Miss Rosenberg, and that's 'sloppy.'"
"Oh, and I bet you're just a big ol' cornucopia of garlic and holy water."
"Well . . . not in the strictest sense, but--"
"Xander, I'll be fine."
"You sure?"
"Yes!"
"Fine, fine. I know when I'm not wanted."
"Hey, guys! I thought you'd be long gone by now."
"Please, Buff! There's research to be done. Sleep is for sissies who don't have the forces of darkness to worry about. And lemme tell ya, nothing's gonna come between me and these musty page-monsters until I've found out all there is to know about--"
" . . . Is that a comic book?"
"Hey. At least I'm being literary. Don't knock it."
"Wouldn't dream of it. But aren't you guys heading home soon? The parental factor, and everything? I think Giles and I can take it from here, if you want to do that resting thing."
"Well, actually, I should probably get home, 'cause with the chem test tomorrow, and the not studying, and all."
"'kay. Thanks, Will. Xand?"
"Ah, I think I can cram in another few hours or so. Er. You're gonna be here, right?"
"'Till bright and early. Mom's in L.A."
"Oooh, library sleepover. Count me in."
". . . Xander?"
"Yeah, Will?"
"I think that maybe I kinda wouldn't mind if you walked me home after all."
". . . Really? I thought you could handle it by yourself."
"I -- I did. But that was before Buf -- buff vampires. Visions of buff vampires, with big sharp shiny teeth and lots of blood lust . . . came to me. And now I'm scared."
"Righto, Will. Have you been overdosing on the Poe again?"
"Just walk me?"
"You betcha."
Aaand . . . that's all I can come up with now. But perhaps I shall continue. Someday.
And now, I am going to go watch The Rain King, because it's beautiful. And there are falling cows.
