Winter is coming; daylight is fleeting; for the students among us, end-of-semester hell is just about to rear its ugly head. What better way to combat such woes than with a super-cheerful comment ficathon?

The Rules Are Thus:

1. Cheerful prompts! I feel like there's not much regulation here in terms of pairings: almost every ship or pair of characters is capable of a fluffy/happy/silly moment, and if they're not in canon, then why can't they be in fic? However, any prompt involving, say, lyrics from Eminem and Rihanna's "Love The Way You Lie" is probably not appropriate in terms of tone. Unless it's the "guess that's why they call it WINDOW PANE" line, which will never stop being hilarious.

They had officially become one of those couples. You know, that couple that talks about their child’s poop habits at the dinner table. Color, shape, density… They didn’t play around when they talked about CeCe’s poop. And when they were not talking about her poop, they were talking about that time when she got her foot halfway into her mouth and gagged herself, or when she had her first taste of mashed peas and spit them out all over Pam’s face (Jim won’t lie, he… really enjoyed that one), or when Jim was giving CeCe a bath and she took the rinse cup and filled it with water and dumped it all over the bathroom floor when Jim wasn’t paying attention (he didn’t enjoy that one so much). CeCe was basically all they talked about anymore. It was getting to the point where even Phyllis would roll her eyes at them at work. But, come on, it wasn’t Jim and Pam’s fault that CeCe was so entertaining. Well, okay, maybe it was their fault, but they couldn’t really help the fact that their delightfulness had rubbed off on their child.

“Delightfulness?” Michael asked. “Really? Ugh, whatever. You think it’s hilarious when she spits up.”

Jim’s eyebrows drew together and he frowned. “Not… really.”

“Yes, you do,” Dwight chimed in. “She spit up on me at the christening and you guys forced her into giving you a high five.”

“Well, now that was a time to celebrate,” Jim said. “I’ve never been more proud of her than I was in that moment.”

Dwight glared at Jim. Jim answered him with a smile and a wink.

That night, while laying CeCe down in her crib, Jim told her, “Don’t worry, CeCe, everyone’s a critic.” He tickled her nose with his finger and she giggled. “At least you know what’s funny.”

I'm only about half-way through the first season, so I hope this is okay ^^;;

The adoption papers come through and Mitchell breaks out the baby-name book with great fervor. Armed with his red pen and a moderately impressive stash of sticky notes incongruously lifted from the office, he’d sat down and meticulously written notes on the pros and cons of names that caught his fancy, striking out Bianca for sounding just a little too snobby and Xanthe for being too, well, weird. When he proudly presents the book to Cam so they can go through the remaining candidates and pick the perfect name together, his boyfriend’s dismissive reaction is more than a little hurtful.

“I worked on this for ages, Cam! I’ve taken everything into consideration, from name-meanings to any associated famous namesakes with less-than-spotless records she might be unwittingly linked to. Look, I even figured out all the different permutations of nicknames just in case there were any that might lend themselves to the usual playground bullying situations, and I’ve factored in the current baby-naming trends because the last thing she’ll want is to feel a loss of individualism by being one of fifteen Emma’s in the classroom!” He huffs in annoyance, arms crossed over his chest to emphasize just how cranky he’s feeling about this whole thing.

“Oh hogwash,” Cameron says breezily (who even uses the word “hogwash” nowadays?) and flips through a catalogue of baby furniture, “We can’t possibly pick a name yet, don’t be silly.”

Mitchell throws his arms up in the air in full what-is-the-world-coming-to fashion. “Right, because trying to decide between antique rose blush and lemon custard yellow as the room’s theme colour clearly takes priority over picking a name for our child!”

“That’s not what I’m saying at all,” Cameron replies mildly in that very patient-but-put-upon way of his. He turns the catalogue at an angle and squints, “Ooh, what do you think of this diaper-changing station? I luh-ove the little rocking-horse motif, it’s so charming!”

“Are you even listening to me? She’s going to be stuck with this name for the rest of her life! What if she hates it? What if she hates us for sticking her with the name that she hates?”

Well that makes Cam pause.

“Mitchell,” he says soothingly, finally dropping the catalogue and patting the seat next to him, “Remember Shel Turtlestein? Fliesaminelli? I bet you didn’t have to spend weeks in advance coming up with those names before you brought them home.”

“Actually, I did.”

“Forget I brought it up. The point is, the way you’re approaching this… well it’s ruining the romance of the whole baby-naming process. Don’t you want to step into that room, take one look at our beautiful baby girl, and just know what her name is going to be? We can’t do that from thousands of miles away! And no—“ he raises a finger as Mitchell opens his mouth to speak, “A picture is not a suitable substitute for that.”

Mitchell thinks, “Oh god we’re going to get there and then she’ll end up nameless for a month.”

Mitchell says, “Fine, whatever. You keep up with this romantic ideal of the perfect baby name materializing out of thin air. I’m going to construct a short-list as our contingency plan.”

He's careful to keep as many people as possible between himself and Annie when midnight hits. As a result, he gets the world's heartiest cheek smooch from Dean Pelton. And yes, there is licking involved. He tries to determine where this ranks on the inappropriate scale next to Makeouts with Annie. He can't really reach a definitive conclusion, because he's too busy yearning for brain bleach. Or alcohol, which he's found over years is an acceptable substitute.

Annie kisses Britta, which isn't a thing a guy needs brain bleach for. It's your standard chaste corner-of-the-mouth 'Oh hey, Aunt Mildred!' deal, but still.

"Check you out," he says when she flounces over to him at like 12:02, drinks in hand, "embracing lesbianism for the New Year. Edison, I applaud you."

She swats him adorably on the chest. "Shut up, Queer Eye for the Bald Guy."

"Wow, what a hilarious, clever, and totally non-dated reference."

"Thank you!" She hands him champagne, then keeps going to town on that sparkling cider. You can tell it's sparkling cider because the plastic flute has 'FOR UNDERAGE LAME-OS' scrawled on it in black Sharpie. (It is, indisputably, the work of Chang. Except for the gold star under the insulting label, which Jeff does not doubt is the work of Annie.)

Why am I HERE, he thinks, but it's with a little less zest than he's used to, and the Dollar Store champagne is almost palatable. This place is warping him. It's warping him bad. It's hard to care so much anymore.

"Got any resolutions?" he asks as they clink their 'glasses' together. It doesn't really make a noise, because, y'know. Plastic.

"Be better," she replies chirpily, like this is somehow a simple, attainable thing rather than vague as all hell. "But, you know. In a way where I still figure out how to let loose and have fun."

"Well, you rang in the new year locking lips with a chick," he points out. "Even if it was Britta. I say you're on your way to loose."

"Thanks," she says, like she's actually touched by him essentially calling her a floozy. Her eyes do that thing where they actually honest to God light up, very little metaphor involved, and she's so utterly and simply and sweetly pretty that it makes him think in small woodland animals and Disney songs that he doesn't even know. His brainwaves can roughly be translated Adorable chipmunk, adorable chipmunk, bluebird, fairy, fairy, A whole new wooooorld!

Annie friggin' Edison, ladies and gentlemen.

"I think," Jeff says, "you're gonna be able to achieve anything you want to. But 'better' is kind of a tall order."

"Oh yeah?" she asks, smiling.

"Yeah," he says. Smiling back, God help him. "You're already pretty damn okay."

She gives him that look that comes out to play once in awhile, where it's like he's done something right and she's proud or whatever. It is a look that has absolutely no power over him, just for the record.

Then she stands up on tiptoe and she kisses him.

It's a quick, nice, no-tongues kind of kiss. A friend kiss, if you will.

BLUEBIRD BLUEBIRD ADORABLE BABY BUNNY LITTLE FAWN TALE AS OLD AS TIME, SONG AS OLD AS RHYME, cries his brain.

"What was that for?" he asks, trying to frown.

"It's New Year's," she replies with an innocent shrug.

"It's--" He consults his watch. "12:09."

"Close enough," she says, giving him one last radiant smile. Then she takes off across the room towards Shirley and Britta.

He totally doesn't watch her go, and decides to spend the rest of the night stealthily throwing chips at Professor Duncan's head. Priorities.

Compliments. They're not the sort of thing he does. Not and mean it well, like that. But he can't quite help himself, when he sees her again.

They're dangling from a cliff by an umbrella (hers, though she claims she might've borrowed it), and he blurts out, "Your eyes. They're lovely, like--"

"Can we save the chatter for later?" She's all business, though those eyes are twinkling in amusement at him (which he doesn't quite guess how they do that, but he accepts it anyway--they're just eyes, he wants to tell himself).

"Yeah--if we just--"

They get off the cliff by dint of an anti-gravity disc she just happened to have lying around.

He doesn't remember about the eyes, though, not until she's gone again. He makes a note in his mental diary (not quite the same as his long-abused nine-hundred-year-old one where he shaves off a decade or two quite often), that she might like another. At some point.

It confuses him that he wants to compliment her (though she complements him with her easy knowledge of his TARDIS and also teases him about his hair; he's never letting Amy near that control again, it took four washes and a large bucket of absinthe to wash the purple out), but can't quite manage to work up the sincerity.

"Your hands, they're so... hand-like."

The look she gives him tells him he's gotten it worse, not better.

"And I really like that you didn't shoot anyone."

"This time," she suggests, her lips twisted in that amusement that sometimes scares him (he knows her end, but does she know his?)

"That dress looks lovely, and so do you."

He's managed it, this time. She smiles and twirls, the skirts belling out, "Thank you. Shall we?"

It's not dancing, not really. They're stealing the crown jewels from a planet that he muffed the pronunciation on when she appeared (and he's certain he'll never live that down). Not for a lark, of course (he's too old for things like that. Probably). The main crystal happens to belong to a doomsday weapon that he sort of forgot he meant to get rid of until now.

"I hope you're Argrgxian is better than your Latin," she mutters to him just before the alarms start blaring.

"My Latin," he objects, grabbing her hand and running for the secret passageway that he knew just had to be there, "is perfect."

"That's not what--"

Whomever she was going to use as a quote against him gets lost as someone fires a gun at them and he has to fiddle with the panel, muttering about humans and their ever-changing syntax.

Giving up isn't his style, but it rather feels as if there's no point to it. The perfect compliment isn't going to, well, he's not sure what he really wants it to do. Not yet, at least.

"Doctor," says River, during the hi-jacking of the Marie Celeste III. "I've always wondered if this was you."

"Many things are me," he tries for mysterious.

She laughs, reaching out to catch his hand preparatory to running for their lives. "That's what you like to think."

Which gives him pause, though he doesn't stop running. Somewhere ahead, Amy is gesturing with a large white stick that might be chalk. He's not sure he wants to know where she got it or what use she's put it to. "All right, so some of them could be you," he suggests.

River's grin encompasses the whole of the universe. "Now there's a rare compliment."

The moment is ruined, of course, as Amy yells at them to get down too late to stop the pudding squirting from the vent they're passing. He wipes the muck from his eyes and finds River tasting hers.

"I've always liked chocolate."

He should keep that in mind. Human women like things like flowers and chocolates, don't they? He could ask Amy, but he'd never hear the end of that, either.
