The Shiny Happy Comment Ficathon!

Winter is coming; daylight is fleeting; for the students among us, end-of-semester hell is just about to rear its ugly head. What better way to combat such woes than with a super-cheerful comment ficathon?

The Rules Are Thus:

1. Cheerful prompts! I feel like there's not much regulation here in terms of pairings: almost every ship or pair of characters is capable of a fluffy/happy/silly moment, and if they're not in canon, then why can't they be in fic? However, any prompt involving, say, lyrics from Eminem and Rihanna's "Love The Way You Lie" is probably not appropriate in terms of tone. Unless it's the "guess that's why they call it WINDOW PANE" line, which will never stop being hilarious.

2. Prompt format should go thus:

Glee -- Kurt and Finn -- ok, but just this once

Kinda waaaaavered from the prompt a little, but I hope you like it anyway.

"I can't believe I'm letting you do this. Oh my god, I can't believe I'm letting you do this."

Kurt rested his head on his shoulder for a moment before the car jerked forward and he fumbled wildly for the handhold above the door. His head jerked around and he fixed a worried stare on Finn, who was, thankfully, looking at the road.

"Don't worry so much, Kurt. I got this. I have my license and everything, just like you," Finn answered. He pressed down on the accelerator again, and this time the car moved more smoothly - back down the driveway. Finn looped his arm around the back of Kurt's chair, which is something Kurt might have enjoyed several months ago before Finn moved into brother territory and out of crush territory. And he might have enjoyed it more, too, if he wasn't letting Finn drive his baby.

It made sense now that they were a one-household family. Finn didn't have a car of his own, so the boys could share. Carole needed hers for work, and so did Burt. The problem was, Kurt was a little overprotective of his car - within reason, he thought, given that Finn was running into doorframes and tripping over himself without the aid of a motor vehicle.

But Burt had been firm, and Finn had agreed to let Kurt ride along on a test drive to prove his worth. Kurt had agreed, since he really didn't have much choice in the matter. Maybe Finn would end up being a great driver and he wouldn't have to bite his nails every time the Navigator left the driveway.

He shut his eyes as Finn braked harshly at the end of the drive.

"See, I saw him coming," Finn said in a tone that was supposed to be reassuring. Kurt groaned.

It was one of the most stressful drives of Kurt's life. Finn drove marginally better than he danced, speeding down straight roads and following too closely behind slow drivers. He turned widely and he didn't always remember to signal. Kurt was mentally counting down the days - perhaps hours - until his Navigator was sold for parts and the two of them ended up sharing a much cheaper car. He kept texting Mercedes with depressing predictions; she sent him back lolcats and hopeful reassurances.

Finally Finn decided it was time to turn toward home. Kurt sunk down in his seat, made sure the seatbelt was in place, and shut his eyes again. When the car stopped, therefore, he figured they were home. He unbuckled his seatbelt.

"Hold on," Finn said. "I'll be right back."

Kurt sat up and looked around; they were parked (more or less in one space) in front of a local ice cream parlor. The car door slammed (Kurt winced), and he watched in amazement as Finn went up to the window.

He was going to eat ice cream in Kurt's car? When Kurt had told him that food was the number one forbidden item? (Number two was canoodling with Rachel in the backseat, a suggestion which had made Finn blush and promise hurriedly. Kurt didn't really believe him.)

Kurt watched irritably as Finn paid for two ice cream cones and returned to the car. When he did, he gestured awkwardly with one for Kurt to roll down the window. Kurt did, fixing him with another disapproving stare.

"I know you don't want to eat this in the car, so come out here," Finn said, thrusting the cone towards Kurt.

"What?"

"I know I made you nervous. So I got you ice cream to make up for it."

Kurt hesitated.

"If you say no, I'll squeal the tires when we pull out. Puck taught me how," Finn retorted, with way too much pride in his voice. Kurt sighed theatrically, pulled the keys from the ignition, and got out of the car. He accepted the ice cream cone, already dripping down onto his hands, and licked at it tentatively. Finn laughed.

"You look like a kitten. Come on, I won't tell Coach Sylvester. Or Mom or Burt. They don't have to know about your secret passion for chocolate ice cream."

"Bad for my complexion," Kurt mumbled, but he still stood there with Finn, leaning back against the Navigator, while they finished their cones. Finn had even remembered to grab a few napkins. He cleaned his hands and offered one to Kurt. They were entirely too rough on his hands, but he appreciated the gesture.

"Do you want to drive home?" Finn asked, examining his fingers for any last traces of chocolate, instead of meeting Kurt's eyes.

Kurt tossed him the keys, smiling just a little. "I think you still need time to get used to driving our baby," he said.

"That sounds creepy," Finn answered, eyebrows twitching, but his tone amused.

"Unintentional," Kurt said, waving a hand, and he climbed into the passenger seat with just a little more confidence than he'd had when they left.

"So can we name her something cool like Drizzle?" Finn asked, tucking himself behind the wheel.

Kurt snorted. "Never," he answered firmly.

And since it was Kurt's car first, Finn didn't complain.

This is so sweet and a wonderful moment in time. Good job!

(I don't know about shiny or happy but I think this fits the silly portion, I'm sorry if this isn't what you had in mind but once I read the prompt I couldn't get this out of my mind.)

Caroline pushed the blonde hair out of her eyes and stared at Stefan. This was so not what she expected. He had to be kidding. Although her hearing was phenomenal now as a vampire; maybe she hadn't heard him right. At least that’s what she hoped.

"What are we doing here again?"

Stefan repeated the words slowly. "I'm going to teach you how to hunt."

"Hunting? As in animals?" She backed away from Stefan slowly and shook her head. "That's just....Ewwww!"

"What did you think I was talking about when I said that I would teach you how to hunt?"

"I don't know. But I didn't think you meant animals." She gave a delicate shudder. "There's no way I'm......."

"Do you remember what happened with Matt?" Stefan's voice was calm, soothing; almost as if he was speaking to a child. "Do you want to risk that again?"

Caroline bowed her head as tears glistened in her eyes and her bottom lip trembled. She hadn't meant to but he'd smelled so good. And not the fresh-out-of-the-shower-boy-next-door aroma that she had always loved, this time he'd smelled like food. "But why can't I just live on donated blood. I know it can be done because Damon can do it and you've done it."

Stefan shook his head before she had even finished speaking. "It's too risky. Until you learn how to control the blood lust, you don't want to hurt anyone. Do you?"

"Of course not." With a reluctant sigh she gave in. "Okay, teach me."

"The easiest thing to hunt for a beginner is rabbit. So if you'll just...."

"Wait. WHAT!? Rabbit? You want me to kill Thumper?"

"Thumper?"

Caroline rolled her eyes and glared at him. "You know, the cute little rabbit in the movie Bambi, the one that was always thumping his foot, hence the name?"

"Bambi?"

She could feel her teeth grind together as she clenched her jaw tight. Honestly, didn't he watch tv? "The Disney cartoon."

"Oh." He had never had the chance to watch the Disney movies, and if he was honest he had never really wanted to either. But apparently Caroline had. As gently as he could Stefan tried to reason with her. "These are wild rabbits not cartoon ones, Caroline." He shook his head as he stared back at her. "You don't have a choice. You need to drink blood to survive."

"Yeah, well there's no way I'm killing Thumper. So just forget it! You can think of something else." Without another word she turned around and began walking back to the Salvatore home.

Stefan stared at her in complete shock. He didn’t understand what hunting for food had to do with a cartoon. As he hurried after her, he wondered how she felt about deer.

Vampire Diaries, Damon & Stefan & others, a surprise birthday party for Damon

It’s half past six when Damon returns. Stefan is alert to the exact moment he does: aside from the typically dramatic slamming of the front door, the air itself seems to shift to make room for the older Salvatore; the house silently groans with the weight.

(Damon Salvatore is a boy who refuses to be missed.)

“You know, it neeeever fails to amaze me, the mouth on that Caroline.”

He saunters into the living room, leather jacket flying over the back of the sofa and landing over Stefan’s head. Damon apparently doesn’t notice.

“You’re taking her out next time. I’ve had enough adolescent female babbling to last an eternity. Which is… how long she could probably keep talking.” Damon shudders melodramatically, and downs his glass of O negative.

Stefan quietly removes the jacket from his head, turns to face his brother. “Damon.”

“Stefan,” comes the non-committal retort.

Stefan smiles, a near-smirk. “I know what tomorrow is.”

“Why yes, Stefan,” Damon drawls. “That would be the day the English-speaking world commonly refers to as ‘Tuesday’. Do I also get to grin like a maniac now? Because I can do that.” He demonstrates.

Stefan swallows a guffaw. “Fine, if you want to be that way.”

“Be what way, Stefan?” Damon’s face is a mockery of innocence. “I’m just being the way I am, brother. And right now, what I am is all tapped out of patience for bad conversation, so – “ He rattles his car keys, a mini-cacophony. “ -- you’ll just have to be vague and self-satisfied on your own.”

Heads back out, much like he came in, the same manner of deafening indifference.

(-- But he could care less if you notice.)

Stefan notices. Damon would never allow him not to.

Elena Gilbert is always beautiful, but especially so when she laughs.

“Seriously? For Damon?”

Stefan would like her to save her laughter for later. For a special occasion.

He grins, a cat laying a mousetrap. “Come on, it’ll be worth it, just to see the look on his face.”

The strange -- yet familiar -- glint in her eye informs him that it’s a persuasive argument.

Contrary to the belief of some (whom he’d kill before invite), Stefan knows that Elena is no stranger to fun.

Caroline Forbes is nothing if not honest. It’s one of the things Elena loves most about her --

“We’re gonna what?”

Elena expels a long-suffering sigh. (A smile pricks at the corners of her mouth.) “It’s Stefan’s idea. Put it down to brotherly bonding.”

“Well, I think it’s a terrible idea. It’ll be a bust. The guy doesn’t even have friends.”

-- But Elena will be the first to recognize that she’s not always right.

“Is this seriously happening?”

Elena is glad to be reminded that her brother can still smile.

She rifles through her closet. “Stefan can be very persuasive.”

Jeremy is chuckling, a sound somewhere between spite and joy. “I can’t believe it.”

Elena holds a dark grey top up against her herself, glances at the mirror. “Neither can I.”

A pause as she mentally rejects the grey one, looks for something brighter instead.

Then –

“Can I come?”

The Salvatores’ living room is bursting with life. Which is a nice change from the usual, Stefan observes.

Of course, a huddled mass of humans from half the town’s population ‘shhh’-ing at each other in the dark is as graceful as... one would expect. But it means something that they’d try.

Stefan is proud to be (wrongfully) considered one of them.

“I can’t believe you talked me into this,” Bonnie mutters to Elena. Stefan can virtually hear her rolling her eyes. “This is the kind of thing you do for people who’ll actually appreciate it.”

Elena exhales audibly. “Probably. But – “ Her tone is wistful. “—Damon can be surprising.”

There’s no time for elaboration, as Stefan hears his brother approaching the front door. He signals the rest of the room, which miraculously falls silent.

The second hand of the clock provides an audible pulse as they wait:

One, the expected slam of the door. Two, a breath and a pause. (It won’t be a complete surprise, the scent is overwhelming.) Three, the singsong greeting. (“Oh, Steeeefan.”)

Four, the deafening reply of the crowd. (“SURPRISE!”)

(Damon’s face is the genuine article of it.)

He composes himself quickly -- no less than Stefan would expect. Shoots a withering glare at his brother, eyebrow arching, lips mouthing a death threat of some extravagant fashion.

Stefan grins, teeth flashing. Mouths back. “You’re welcome.”

The day might not belong to him, but Stefan feels more complete than if it did. If anyone notices the foolish grin on the younger Salvatore’s face all night, they don’t mention it.

Damon notices.

Stefan would never allow him not to.

Sam is slowly drifting in and out of consciousness. It's that strange in between sensation that comes from lying next to a new body for the first night. Jess hadn't had a problem with falling asleep right away, and Sam thinks that's probably a good idea. She's the first girl he's ever spent the night with, and damned if he'll screw this up with her thinking he's creepy with watching her sleep.
But he can't help himself, is the thing. She looks so beautiful, the moonlight from the open window hitting her just right, it a little bit takes his breath away. She had washed her make up all of, and her curls are tangled to hell. Sam is pretty sure she's the most beautiful thing he's ever seen. Her body is mostly covered by an old, ratty gray t-shirt and pajama bottoms - the heat in their new place hasn't kicked in yet - but he knows the curves below by heart.
Sam has heard some say that there are moments that will stick with you through the rest of your life, and even into the next. He's not entirely sure if he believes it, but he knows, if it is true, this is one of them.

Angel, Fred and whoever else, Fred's first taco after she gets back

Cordelia remembered Fred telling her about how she loved tacos back when they were both enslaved. It had seemed like such a little thing then, but she was glad she remembered it now. Fred refused to eat anything, and the only person she wanted to talk to, Angel, was off on a spirtual journey.

Go figure.

But Cordelia wasn't the type to give up on things easily, and she wasn't going to let this poor girl starve to death. They were supposed to be helping the helpess, and right now, Fred was the helpless. So she was going to help her whether the girl wanted her help or not, damnit.

So she went to her favorite 24 hour taco stand and got some tacos. She wasn't sure which kind Fred would like, so she got a little bit of everything: chickn, beef, and even some carnitas.

She brought it up to the room Fred was staying in, knocking on the girl's door. "I brought you some tacos?" She called out.

There was only a second gone by before the door opened, and Fred actually looked happy for once. She looked like it was Christmas and her birthday all rolled up in one. "These are for me?"

"Yep," Cordelia smiled softly, watching as Fred picked one up, eating it like a starving person, which she probably was. "I wasn't sure what you liked, so I got a little bit of everything."

Fred didn't say anything, not at first. Instead she just ate taco after taco, savoring each delicious, wonderful bite. She finished them in record time. "I'm surprised you remembered I liked 'em. Thank you."

And to that, Cordelia merely smiled. "What are friends for?"

Friends. Fred smiled a little bit to herself. Maybe this place wasn't so bad after all.

I'm just saaaaaaaaaaying, I don't think anyone would fill this prompt unless all my femmeslash friends from my flist came to play (and I wanted to prompt Jo/Kat but I was worried people would be all "WHO IS KAT?").

"So, you're an angel, huh?"

"Used to be," Anna laughs quietly. She stares back down at her shoes and Ruby swears she looks ashamed.

"Never thought I'd see one up close," Ruby whistles, pushing off of one of the old man's bookshelves to walk over. Anna instantly tenses and nearly falls off the couch as she tries to scramble backwards. Ruby tsks and rolls her eyes. "I'm not going to eat you, girlie."

But she knows Anna doesn't fear her, not anymore. No, now she's disgusted by this lowly demon stinking up the air and daring to talk to her like an equal.

Feh, snobby angel bitch, Ruby thinks, but she doesn't stop walking until she's close enough to reach out and touch the fallen angel.

"If I had my grace, you'd--" Anna starts, but Ruby grabs her by the chin and cuts her off. If she wants threatening, Ruby can do threatening. But she doesn't feel it. Not today.

"Well, you ain't got it. At least not yet. Those boys outside, they'll help you find it."

Anna squints up at her as she drops her hand.

"You're strange. I never thought a demon could be nice." And even without her grace, those eyes on her look bright enough to smite Ruby where she stands. "Well, maybe nice is a bit generous. You mean well, though."

And then she smiles, and angel or not, it's one of the most beautiful things Ruby's ever seen and she has to look away. But there are plans in motion, work to be done, and she won't let a pretty face distract her for long. She spots the Winchesters outside and motions an arm for Anna to get up and follow.

"Yeah, yeah, whatever. C'mon, let's go see if those idiots are ready yet," she shrugs, already headed out the door.

Eeeeee! I did not actually think someone would fill this and you did and it's aweeeesome! Ruby's nicely done--stark, not nice but not cruel and of course she's drawn to Anna's smile. <3 And the title is best :D
