Sansa/Shae; the night is dark

The Meereenese evening still smells strange to Shae - salty and rotting but not crowded enough. The stars are undisturbed tonight, there are no dragons or ravens to block them out.

She closes the door behind her, locking out the foreign night. Sansa is awake, for once, reading one of the heavy books Tyrion had left them. Shae yanks it from her grasp and holds it out of reach - but Sansa isn't in the mood for playing. She looks thoughtful, and a little sad, and her voice betrays tears when she says, "let me comb your hair".

Shae doesn't ask what she'd been thinking about. She doesn't like to guess. She sits patiently as Sansa fumbles with her mammoth-ivory comb and the sweet heavy oils that they use mostly for fucking. Sansa kneels behind her and works through her hair slowly. Distractedly. Painfully.

Shae grunts and pulls away when Sansa yanks at a snag.

"You'd be a horrible handmaiden!"

"I've been a handmaiden," Sansa pointed out. "My lady never complained."

"She was too polite. That's the problem with nobility in Westeros - they're always so considerate."

Sansa smirks but it doesn't reach her eyes, so Shae pushes her down, sloshing oil over their sheets.

"If you were my handmaiden," she breathes into Sansa's face, "I'd punish you for carelessness."

Sansa's eyes shine like mirrors. "Would you have me flogged on the square, my lady?"

"No. In private." She kisses Sansa breathless. "I'd make you beg first."

"Oh, please make me beg," Sansa whispers - and everyone knows Shae lives to please.

Guh, this is lovely -- sexy and familiar and fond; GIRLS, WHY CAN'T YOU JUST RUN AWAY TOGETHER.

I'm not sure if I ship it or not; like, they sometimes feel more mother/daughtery than loversy. Regardless, they should definitely run away together and send postcards to Tyrion.

Yeah, I agree re: shipping it! I'm curious to see the relationship explored from that angle (especially when the realization periodically strikes me that there's really not much of an age difference between them, especially by this series' standards), but I definitely agree that in their current position in show canon, they feel quite familial.

And always, always they should run away together and send postcards to Tyrion. :D

you're right, it's not a matter of age difference - it's more, I don't know, Shae had a very weird mother-on-the-verge-of-nervous-breakdown trying-and-failing-to-protect-her-offspring vibe throughout this season, and Sansa is of course a perpetual daughter figure. (In the books - I don't even know about the books. Book!Shae is an enigma, which is a nicer way of saying she's way underdeveloped compared to show!Shae, who is probably my favourite character right now.)

... so I am getting mental images of cheesy Westeros postcards now.
