It's All a bit Harry Potter - Martha&Ten, G

Oh god, I loved this prompt. I haven't watched the third series in forever so sorry if this is a bit off but I had fun with this :)

++++++

It’s not fair, Martha thinks as the doctor starts twirling around the Tardis console mumbling to himself about where they should go next. He can’t just tease her like this.

Well, in a manner of speaking he’s been teasing her in many ways since that first encounter but this-wait till you read book seven. Oh, I cried...- this is a different kind of teasing. You’d think that with all the madness that comes with travelling with the doctor, the last thing on her mind would be how Harry Potter’s tale ends.

But the thing is; it is very much on her mind. It’s all good when they’re running for their lives or when she’s trying to digest the fact that they are travelling through time, through space in ways that shouldn’t even be possible but when she gets a chance to stop and catch her breath, when the Doctor asks her where she would like to go next like he’s asking her right now, she can’t help but think of the same moment every single time.

“You’ve read the last Harry Potter book, yeah?” she asks him, stepping up to the console.

“What? Yes, but what does that have to do with anything? Go. Where do you want to go Martha? 1945?”

“Why would I want to go to 1945?” Martha asks, momentarily distracted.

The Doctor shrugs. “Sounds exciting, doesn’t it?”

“How about somewhere in the future?”

He stops and looks over at her, frowning in that adorable way of his. “Alright then,” he says turning back to the buttons and levers. “How far into the future? Ten-fifteen years? How about the day the moon explodes? Right crazy day, that.”

“Actually doctor, I was wondering if you could take me to the last Harry Potter book release.”

The doctor peers over the console at her. “What?” he asks, thoroughly disappointed at the lack of adventure in her request.

Martha just smiles and gives a little half shrug, “It’s just...I can’t stop thinking about it ever since you mentioned the last book-”

“Martha,” he says very seriously, walking over and gripping both of her shoulders. “You can travel anywhere in time and space and you want to go buy a book?”

“It’s Harry Potter!” she says and the Doctor blinks at her for a moment before his face cracks into a huge grin.

“Yeah,” he says, dragging the word out, “All right, then.” He turns around and punches in the appropriate coordinates. “July 21st, 2007-the last Harry Potter book release!”

The TARDIS buzzes to life as they take off and Martha has to grab on to the railing as it lurches sideways.

“Come on,” he says holding out a hand to her.

“Where are we going?” she asks, taking his hand as he starts leading her down the TARDIS hallways.

“Well, it’s the last book isn’t it? You can’t show up like that!” he waves a hand at her and she looks down at her simple jeans and shirt.”Where’s the fun without a bit of dressing up?”

“So what, you’re going to paint a lightening scar on your forehead?”

“Just watch,” he says pushing his way through a door.

She watches him flit around the vast room, sorting through racks and trunks of overflowing socks and shirts and boots. He bends down to dig through a chest of scarves and robes and calls out to her “Gryffindor or Hufflepuff?” he asks, nose still buried in the clothing

“I’m a Ravenclaw,”

“Oh yes you are,” he smiles at her, holding out a black robe encrusted with the blue and silver of Ravenclaw house.

In the end, she does help him paint a lightening scar on his forehead and watches him trade his spectacles for a rounder pair and shrug out of his overcoat in favour of Gryffindor robes.

“The look suits you,” she compliments as they link arms and step out of the TARDIS and join the queue of shouting, excited fans.
