Winter is coming; daylight is fleeting; for the students among us, end-of-semester hell is just about to rear its ugly head. What better way to combat such woes than with a super-cheerful comment ficathon?

I feel like there's not much regulation here in terms of pairings: almost every ship or pair of characters is capable of a fluffy/happy/silly moment, and if they're not in canon, then why can't they be in fic? However, any prompt involving, say, lyrics from Eminem and Rihanna's "Love The Way You Lie" is probably not appropriate in terms of tone. Unless it's the "guess that's why they call it WINDOW PANE" line, which will never stop being hilarious.

It was like a re-enactment on one of those real crime shows where they put up a number to report a suspect, except it was mostly noncriminal and kind of fun. It was like watching almost doubles of themselves all night, reliving a Halloween before things went strange and awkward - before the gulf of Sharon's boyfriend and Angela's no-boyfriend or semi-boyfriend split up their friendship.

They were both kind of ashamed of letting each other go, and that seemed like a good reason to try to get back to where they'd been.

Sharon and Angela both decided to be Madonna, again, and they made pointy bras out of cardboard. They started at Angela's house, because Patty was totally insistent on seeing the costumes absolutely in the final stage before they started trick-or-treating. She tugged at leotards to make sure they weren't secretly sheer in certain light, then sighed at Angela's wearing a big flannel shirt unbuttoned over the whole thing.

"You can borrow my quilted jacket," she said, fussing with her daughter's high ponytail. It was temporarily sprayed platinum blonde, and looked remarkably terrible, even after the nuclear red hair. "It's black, it should blend in pretty well. You look lovely, Sharon."

Angela slouched away from the help, and grabbed her friend to flee. "I'm fine, Mom, see you later!"

They met Graham and Danielle in the driveway, returning from Danielle's short and lucrative survey of the neighbourhood. Her father gave her a slightly puzzled glance, but at least he smiled and said, "You look nice, honey. Don't be late though."

"The Burkes are giving out candy apples," the short, bewhiskered little Chase said frankly. "Toothbrushes at the Johnsons."

"Thanks, Danielle," Angela said brusquely.

"Your costume is pretty," Sharon added.

They walked on, stopping at some houses and avoiding the ones with little kids stacked four deep on the stoop. Angela was sure she wouldn't run into Jordan or Rayanne, so she was actually pretty normal for Angela. She felt free, and sort of young, maybe even happy. It was effortless for once.

Their bags got heavier with treats, and they weren't too late arriving at the Burkes to get candy apples. Angela held hers up and swirled it like a wand, and Sharon stuck hers between her two cardboard boob points and pretended it was a stoplight for Kyle. They were maybe on-again, she confided quietly, but not enough to mention it to other people yet.

"That's good," Angela said, somewhat uncertainly. "Right?"

"I think so, maybe."

"Good, then, good."

Dropping the candy apple into her bag, Angela smiled. "I'm glad we could do this. Last year wasn't the same. I mean, that was kind of the point, but every Halloween I can remember has been this with you. Anything else felt kind of artificial, like if you weren't there neither was I."

"Yeah," Sharon nodded, then looked down at her shoes. "Ugh, how does Madonna walk in these all day?"

"I always thought she must make her bodyguard carry her all the time and only gets down when she's doing a concert."

"Now there's an idea - almost all my shoes are kind of bad for walking. I'll tell Kyle about it on Monday."
