At first Tami thinks the house will be too quiet, with Julie gone at college and Gracie starting preschool but between Eric’s field time and her long hours at the new counseling office, she adjusts to her new life.

One Saturday afternoon she comes home to find Eric waiting for her in the kitchen, leaning against the counter with a smirk on his face.

“Hey babe,” she greets him, dropping her bags on the couch and looking around. “Where’s Gracie?”

“Luke and Becky are looking after her,” he explained, walking around to slide behind her, hands on her waist. “Kids offered.”

“Did they?” Tami asked, not buying it at all and turning in his arms to loop hers behind his neck. “And why is that?”

“Because they’re good kids,” Eric answered, stealing a kiss when she arched an eyebrow at him, his fingers twisting in her hair to pull it done, his other hand sliding past her shirt.

“The whole afternoon?” she asked, cautious, before he smiled more widely this time. Pulling out of his grip, Tami sauntered down the hallway, confident.

“Make sure the door’s locked,” she called back.

(It wouldn’t have mattered if it wasn’t.)
