The Shiny Happy Comment Ficathon!

Winter is coming; daylight is fleeting; for the students among us, end-of-semester hell is just about to rear its ugly head. What better way to combat such woes than with a super-cheerful comment ficathon?

The Rules Are Thus:

1. Cheerful prompts! I feel like there's not much regulation here in terms of pairings: almost every ship or pair of characters is capable of a fluffy/happy/silly moment, and if they're not in canon, then why can't they be in fic? However, any prompt involving, say, lyrics from Eminem and Rihanna's "Love The Way You Lie" is probably not appropriate in terms of tone. Unless it's the "guess that's why they call it WINDOW PANE" line, which will never stop being hilarious.

2. Prompt format should go thus:

Aww, this is adorable! Bonnie and Caroline's reactions are my favorite.

MAYBE A FEW, DO YOU THINK. &River Song; This was just perfectly in-character and perfectly adorable -- flustered!Doctor trying to impress River Song and failing, I love it. And aaaaaahahahaha:

He could ask Amy, but he'd never hear the end of that, either.

TRUEST OF STORIES. If Amy had caught him attempting compliments, she'd have fallen over laughing.

YES! How could I forget sam/Larry? I really like them. I think I just don't find them as much interesting to read about as to read about my other favorites. (But maybe I should prompt them anyway and reconsider.)

The dynamic between those two makes me happy. They had the chemistry Lacy and Keon certainly lacked. I wish there had been more screen time for Barnabas. He is far more interesting than Clarice is.

Yes, I guess, it wouldn't. Poor Lacy. Barnabas is so much trouble. How would he react? You can never quite tell.
Maybe he would try his version of the truth and of course Lacy's mom wouldn't believe him, because that's what always happens when someone tells the truth.
Maybe he would simple mess with every story Lacy comes up with until he realises in what sort of trouble his about to get her into.
Or maybe he would be all charming and reasonable to a degree where it freaks out both Lacy and her mom (and me, too), because you only need to take a look at him to see, that this isn't like him and he's totally trying to play you and thinks he can get away with it.

Yes! And Arthur (and everyone else, too, for that matter) needs to be reminded of this from time to time.

This fic really had everything I like about those two.
And the kind of ot4? Delicious. Arthur being utterly helpless and Merlin turning all red, while Morgana is totally above this. We don't see how Gwen reacts, but in my head she would play along, because it's always funny to see Arthur embarrassed.

I'm only about half-way through the first season, so I hope this is okay ^^;;

The adoption papers come through and Mitchell breaks out the baby-name book with great fervor. Armed with his red pen and a moderately impressive stash of sticky notes incongruously lifted from the office, he’d sat down and meticulously written notes on the pros and cons of names that caught his fancy, striking out Bianca for sounding just a little too snobby and Xanthe for being too, well, weird. When he proudly presents the book to Cam so they can go through the remaining candidates and pick the perfect name together, his boyfriend’s dismissive reaction is more than a little hurtful.

“I worked on this for ages, Cam! I’ve taken everything into consideration, from name-meanings to any associated famous namesakes with less-than-spotless records she might be unwittingly linked to. Look, I even figured out all the different permutations of nicknames just in case there were any that might lend themselves to the usual playground bullying situations, and I’ve factored in the current baby-naming trends because the last thing she’ll want is to feel a loss of individualism by being one of fifteen Emma’s in the classroom!” He huffs in annoyance, arms crossed over his chest to emphasize just how cranky he’s feeling about this whole thing.

“Oh hogwash,” Cameron says breezily (who even uses the word “hogwash” nowadays?) and flips through a catalogue of baby furniture, “We can’t possibly pick a name yet, don’t be silly.”

Mitchell throws his arms up in the air in full what-is-the-world-coming-to fashion. “Right, because trying to decide between antique rose blush and lemon custard yellow as the room’s theme colour clearly takes priority over picking a name for our child!”

“That’s not what I’m saying at all,” Cameron replies mildly in that very patient-but-put-upon way of his. He turns the catalogue at an angle and squints, “Ooh, what do you think of this diaper-changing station? I luh-ove the little rocking-horse motif, it’s so charming!”

“Are you even listening to me? She’s going to be stuck with this name for the rest of her life! What if she hates it? What if she hates us for sticking her with the name that she hates?”

Well that makes Cam pause.

“Mitchell,” he says soothingly, finally dropping the catalogue and patting the seat next to him, “Remember Shel Turtlestein? Fliesaminelli? I bet you didn’t have to spend weeks in advance coming up with those names before you brought them home.”

“Actually, I did.”

“Forget I brought it up. The point is, the way you’re approaching this… well it’s ruining the romance of the whole baby-naming process. Don’t you want to step into that room, take one look at our beautiful baby girl, and just know what her name is going to be? We can’t do that from thousands of miles away! And no—“ he raises a finger as Mitchell opens his mouth to speak, “A picture is not a suitable substitute for that.”

Mitchell thinks, “Oh god we’re going to get there and then she’ll end up nameless for a month.”

Mitchell says, “Fine, whatever. You keep up with this romantic ideal of the perfect baby name materializing out of thin air. I’m going to construct a short-list as our contingency plan.”

To get to this point has meant enduring a sixteen hour flight with the woman sitting in the window seat insisting on a bathroom break at every hour and Cam bawling over every single movie available in the flight entertainment system’s repertoire. Five minutes ago he would have said the experience was about sixteen hours too long, but right now… right now he’s willing to do that flight another sixteen times over just to get to this moment.

Cam is cradling the baby – their baby – with such gentleness and adoration, like he’s been meant for this his entire life, and Mitchell feels so full and light and deeply in love.

As he holds his arms out for her Cam says, “Say hi to your daddy, Lily!” and he doesn’t even have time to register what that means before he’s totally and completely in awe of this tiny little life he’s holding. She looks back at him calmly, bright-eyed and curious, one delicate little hand with five delicate little fingers tugging at one pretty, tiny ear. He marvels at her adorable, perfectly formed nose and her little mouth, suddenly stretching itself into an O-shaped yawn.

“So, what do you think?” Cam asks, tapping her cute nose button fondly with one finger.

“She’s perfect,” he manages to breathe out.

“Well of course she is! But I’m talking about the name, Mitchell. I just took one look at her and there it was! BAM! ‘Lily’.” He fans his hands out like he’s performing a magic trick, and Mitchell can’t help smiling.

There’s only one way to tell Cam the approval he’s waiting to hear.

“Hi Lily,” he says to his daughter, “I’m your daddy.”

Oh, nabbing this.

This is just lovely! That last line in particular - stunning, gorgeous.

Lee stuck in a tree with a pillowcase around his neck, clinging desperately to the neighbors’ cat and insisting that Captain Caprica would have come up to save it too.

SO PRESH AND RIDIC. (Thus perfectly IC.)

This is brilliant in so many ways that I can't even comprehend this early in the morning.

I will have to find the article I read, but when I watched that scene on YouTube, my impression was that that was an altered version of the original plan. And yeah, the deconstruction is the best bit of "Twin Peaks" and Audrey.

Harry Potter, Ron/Hermione - oh the weather outside is frightful, but the fire is so delightful

OH GOSH THIS IS SO LOVELY! ♥ Hahaha, I love Mitchell attacking a baby name book with a red pen and Cam being the only person in the world to still use the word "hogwash," and their banter is so spot-on, and okay, that whole second section has rendered my heart a big happy mess of AWWWWW.

OH, THESE TWO. ♥ This is awesome, and I will never stop digging the idea of them continuing to hang out, all at odds and well-suited, after the movies have ended.

"This was a terrible idea," Angel said. "I can't watch. Why did we let him do this?"

Cordelia pried his hands of the edge of the seat before he accidentally broke it. "You practically beat three moms down to get him a place on the team, remember?"

"I wasn't thinking! There are pucks! And ice! And skates are sharp!" Angel looked across the rink and caught Connor's eye. The little boy grinned cheerily and waved, nearly toppling over in the process.

"Clearly didn't inherit vampire grace," Cordelia said, smiling and waving back. "Stop worrying. You've been teaching him hockey since he was born." She put her hand over his and patted it gently.

He twisted his hand and took hers, squeezing gently. "I just can't watch him get hurt."

She nodded. "I know."

"Hey," Gunn said, sitting down behind them. "Has it started yet? Did we miss anything?"

Fred and Wesley sat next to him. "Here," Wesley said, handing Cordelia a hot chocolate. "Is Angel panicking?"

"No," Angel said sullenly.

"Little bit," Cordelia said.

Fred smiled and took a bite out of her hot dog. "I think it's exciting," she said. "Everyone all padded up and ready to play. Maybe we should wear pads when we fight. It'd probably be safer."

"Let's invest in more for Connor," Angel said.

"Hush," Cordelia said, squeezing his hand. "It's starting."

The kids took their positions on the ice. The referee blew the whistle, and the game began.

Slowly, Angel's death grip on Cordelia's hand loosened. Connor wasn't the best player, but then again, none of the five-year-olds were at professional levels. When Connor managed to get the puck in the net, Angel stood up and cheered louder than anyone else.

"Feeling better?" Cordelia asked as he sat down.

Angel nodded. "Yeah." He winced as Connor tripped and fell, then smiled in relief when he pushed himself right back up and kept going. "I can't wait to take him to Kings game!"
