The Shiny Happy Comment Ficathon!

Winter is coming; daylight is fleeting; for the students among us, end-of-semester hell is just about to rear its ugly head. What better way to combat such woes than with a super-cheerful comment ficathon?

Ergo:

The Rules Are Thus:

1. Cheerful prompts! I feel like there's not much regulation here in terms of pairings: almost every ship or pair of characters is capable of a fluffy/happy/silly moment, and if they're not in canon, then why can't they be in fic? However, any prompt involving, say, lyrics from Eminem and Rihanna's "Love The Way You Lie" is probably not appropriate in terms of tone. Unless it's the "guess that's why they call it WINDOW PANE" line, which will never stop being hilarious.

2. Prompt format should go thus:

Fandom -- Pairing or characters -- prompt

3. For the fic you've written, please put the following in your comment's subject line: 'Fandom -- pairing -- title.'

4. Be nice!

5. Spread the fun, if you are so inclined!

6. Go forth and have a merry happy good time. :)

The Serenade of Romantic Doom, Castle, Castle/Beckett

[identity profile] nonky.livejournal.com 2010-11-10 10:50 pm (UTC)(link)
He started it - Castle always started it, and she had gotten the hang of being completely deadpan and not at all charmed - but Kate finished it. She figured it was only fair he be thrown off his game now and again, and if everything was a game to him, all was fair.

"You're costing me priceless moments of crime solving," she complained loudly, over the blaring stereo he'd just switched on. "Someone could be dying right outside, literally screaming bloody murder, and I wouldn't hear."

It was good or bad luck - depending on her disposition one second to the next - the song was a favourite. It was from Dirty Dancing and reminded her of sleepovers and youthful giggling over shirtless guys with muscle tone. It was a very good thing no one else was around, because Castle had no trouble launching into a swiveling, ass-swinging, jacket-stripping show.

"Do you love me, I can really move! Do you loooooooooove me, I'm in the groove, do you-" His cufflink caught on his sleeve and he missed a few words. "Now that IIIIIIIIII can DAAAAAAAANCE! Watch me now!"

She could do very little else as he grabbed her chair and rolled her out into the aisle between desks. It became more like a lapdance, Castle bending and gyrating low as he continued pulling her around obstacles. He was winking and mugging, though, joking enough she didn't feel offended even if it did go too far toward the sexual.

"Ohhhhhh, work it out, work it-"

"I was trying to," she pointed out flatly, folding her feet up to keep them from getting rolled over or danced on.

"Work it, work it, now!"

Castle got more into the song than his ceaseless annoyance, and spun her chair away, only to catch it on one arm. Kate stood up, kicking it out of his grip with a grin. If Castle could waggle everything he had at her, she could grind on him a little bit in retribution.

"A little bit clo-ser-"

She flicked her hair back over her shoulders, no end of workday pain in her feet present, or headache from the loud radio. Castle lost track of the song as she yanked him in by his belt, his hands out defensively at his sides as if to claim his innocence in the contact. Kate rolled her hips and he spent another wasted second baffled at her - almost concerned enough to ask what was happening, she thought fondly.

Then his bluff to her double-bluff, became a triple-bluff, both of them undulating shoulders to thighs in very close proximity. Things brushed that only ever had during emergencies, and it wasn't at all unpleasant. Kate held on as he dipped her back, curling her leg up around his hip so high she could have stuck her heel into his back pocket. They held the pose as the song died out, replaced by a DJ announcing a contest to win a smart car.

"Castle?"

His mouth was really near, and his eyes were half-mast as if he could already feel the inevitable ravishment a woman had to lay on him for such a seductive display. She had to counteract his ego a few hundred times more before she played into it like that. With her leg slipping slowly down his thigh, she whispered, "Castle, we're through dancing. You can stop dipping me now."

He blinked and made a lightly pained face, raising her back to her feet with gentle grace. Kate gave him a little squeeze around his middle and stepped back.

"Thanks for study break, but I'm going to put on a pot of coffee, and if you want to stay here, you'll turn off that noise," she told him, sweet as the puppy-dog eyes he pointed at her.

Castle moved toward the radio, but she heard him mutter, "If they just went straight into 'Hungry Eyes' you'd never be able to concentrate on work."

Best Friends with Wandering Eyes, Ben/Hannah, Secret Diary of a Call Girl

[identity profile] nonky.livejournal.com 2010-11-10 11:08 pm (UTC)(link)
There's this extra kind of look men get, when they find out I'm a prostitute. It's not necessarily offensive, it's just . . . They can't not look me over, just to check out what's for sale. Some of them can't help asking how much, and when I tell them they get this look like they're being ripped-off just hearing it.

And Ben's never paid for me. He did, of course, when we were dating and when we went out as friends. He treated all the time, and had me over to his work to 'sample' new drinks he was creating. He just never expected he was buying me, even after he knew what I really did for a living.

It's the stupid things that kept me in contact with him even through the worst of our fights. He would give me shit about my job and then send me this awful t-shirt from one of his terrible weekends away with some other girl to apologize. I would have to take that awful shirt back to him to throw it in his face, and he would tell me the genuinely worst dating misadventures. He would grin and try to get me drunk, and I would slowly thaw out. Next thing we were bread and butter all over again, patched up like nothing happened.

It didn't take money with Ben, or for him to see me at my best and go mad after me - it took a million dumb little rows and silly gestures to make it better. It took telling him exactly how much I was asking for, and seeing him look positively scarred I didn't ask a million.

And if there's a fairytale ending here - no guarantees, just hopes - it will be that though a lot of men have paid for me, Ben has always wanted to earn me and wasn't sure how.

[identity profile] marketchippie.livejournal.com 2010-11-10 11:16 pm (UTC)(link)
Hee, provoking me to write these two takes literally no work at all. (I put this in my fic index and realized how overwhelming the OTPtime is in proportion to everything else I write.) They are my favorite kids, and writing them is such a pleasure of intricacies and intimacies. The best ship. Oh my heart.

You're so welcome. Thank you.

[identity profile] marketchippie.livejournal.com 2010-11-10 11:19 pm (UTC)(link)
Why thank you!

This is my favorite ship in the entire world in large part because they live on the same metaphor wavelength. They're constantly embodying both pieces of stories and the way stories are told. (I mean, they bond over a word. In a poem she hasn't read. Favorite favorites forever.)

You never used to think I was mad just because I said mad things, Sirius does not say. Being a bit mad used to be part of my charm.

How much do I love this part? As much as I love this entire fic. Wonderful, wonderful, wonderful writing and totally believable characterization <3

I love this detail. Rick Castle: making being a GIANT DORK awkwardly sexy since 2009.

Alternative Lifestyles in Modern Discourse

[identity profile] nonky.livejournal.com 2010-11-11 12:24 am (UTC)(link)
"Russell Crowe is a cutie," Shirley said, to Abed and Annie's immediate nods, and Britta's sour puss.

"Trying too hard to be masculine," she said firmly. "And I don't fall for accents just because they sound exotic compared to what I'm used to. I spent a lot of time in New York."

Jeff dropped his textbook closed, and growled, "I was ignoring the inanities until you compounded them with your hypocrisy. Britta, first of all, Russell Crowe is Australian, and secondly, all women are suckers for some accent. Maybe not every accent, but at least one of them. For you-" He tapped his chin as if considering her with therapeutic insight. "British, definitely. Hugh Grant, Hugh Laurie, all the Hughs; they could have you swooning all over their big ears and teeth inside three syllables!"

The blond's nose wrinkled up like a Shar Pei,as she scowled. "Unlike most women, I am immune to an English accent. It's English, it's what I hear around me all the time - what's sexy about that? It's not the accent, it's the words that attract me."

That set off everyone on tangents of their own, mostly true confessions of arousal to James Earle Jones telephone company commercials. Jeff had to use his pimp hand of silence to get the study group to order. But it wasn't over.

"Talk to her about dolphins," he told Ian, gesturing wildly to keep the teacher's attention. "Yeah, yeah, dolphins, but at the same time, you order the tuna - and don't ask if it's dolphin-friendly, just order it anyway. Order it in your snide, nasal twang of a sissy-voice, and watch her ignore her vaunted ideals AND your weak-jawed weasel face!"

The expatriated Brit cringed so many times his face stuck that way a little, which helped nothing. Britta was so going to eat her words, Jeff thought to himself. She was going to have to answer for a thousand claims without any legs to stand on. She was going to have to own up to her own multitude of flaws.

"I was more confident before your pep-talk," Ian said faintly, obviously trying not to be nasal or sissy.

"Oh, just go!"

Jeff pushed him into the cafeteria line, ignoring all the dirty looks it earned him. Some things were worth more than comfort and ease. Some things mattered - like tearing down the so-called ideals of a nonconformist conformist. Britta turned to see who had stumbled against her, and took the apology nicely enough.

"It's okay," she said.

"I, uh, that is - I am having the tuna," Ian said loudly. "And I'm not going to even ask if it's dolphin-friendly."

Her blond head bobbed with hateful curls bouncing. "Why should you, with companies usurping the dolphin-friendly seal by getting their tuna from overseas fishermen who make less then a penny a pound," she sniffed. "And I can tell you, for that kind of money, those poor fishers can't afford to buy environmentally friendly gear."

Her bright smile up at Ian gave him the opening for another comment, so he struggled for it in the depths of his brain. "And I don't see how cleaning up the BP oil spill will fix things when just about everyone owns a car," he ventured uncertainly. "Fossil fuels!"

[identity profile] nonky.livejournal.com 2010-11-11 12:26 am (UTC)(link)

Britta had her plate of stir-fry vegetables centered on her tray just like real food, but she paused and put it down. Her hand slid along Ian's forearm, making him tremble so hard he nearly upended his own tray of napkins and nervously gathered utensils.

"I never could have imagined you'd be so informed on environmental causes," she said wonderingly, walking her fingers up his sweater vest. "It's refreshing to meet a really intelligent man who uses his mind for important questions, not just ways to scam on women."

"Oh, I would never-oh! I-I, never, I appreciate your - rub . . . ing," Ian stammered frantically as Britta's hand slipped closer to his belt.

"HAH! I told you it was an accent thing," Jeff yelped triumphantly. "I just sent him over here to babble nonsense to you with a few key words, and you drank it all up like a crumpet-swallowing . . . crumpet-lover!"

He pulled Ian away from Britta's slow-crawl grope, and got in her face. "Really? Really?! You thought I was fooled by this, when half an hour ago you practically built a gallows for me about this same issue? It was a transparent trap, and you're a transparent man, Jeff, and you've failed!"

"I have not! I'm just getting started! It's not just about the accent, even though I come to this idiot for advice all the time?! Even though I let him help me with my taxes, when he can't balance his own checkbook and as far as I know has never paid taxes in this country?!"

She huffed with her arms crossed over her chest, frowning at the line of hungry students behind their fight. "Then you're the hypocrite, because you're seduced by his accent, not me. I am immune, because even if he knew what to say to me, I'd still find other more irritating men here much more attractive," she said loudly. "I wish I did fall for silly things like accents, but I'm sadly much more perverse."

Jeff's automatic panic upon bridging their nicely-honed gap between Britta and Jeff made him speak quickly and honestly, trying to get them back on safe ground.

"I'll have you know, Ian is very sensitive, and he is always good to me," he said emphatically. "I give him crap, but really, I don't deserve him because he'll do things like this for me and ask nothing in return."

The line started to move around them, like a stream diverting around an obstacle. Britta rolled her eyes and hauled Ian back in to shake his hand.

"Then I congratulate you both," she said caustically. "I wish you every happiness."

Ian mumbled a cowed thank you, but Jeff put am arm proudly around his friend. "Thank you, Britta, we are very happy together." He shoved his arm roughly around Ian's flapping limb, and led him purposefully out of the cafeteria.

"You're very handsome," Jeff murmured under his breath, "and I'm sorry I called you weasel-faced."

Casting a helpless look backward, the gobsmacked man saw the Dean waving a packet of relationship registration forms with a vengeful look. It was one thing to fool a student in borderline inappropriate flirting, but the Dean would never forgive him for stealing Jeff.
