Winter is coming; daylight is fleeting; for the students among us, end-of-semester hell is just about to rear its ugly head. What better way to combat such woes than with a super-cheerful comment ficathon?

The Rules Are Thus:

1. Cheerful prompts! I feel like there's not much regulation here in terms of pairings: almost every ship or pair of characters is capable of a fluffy/happy/silly moment, and if they're not in canon, then why can't they be in fic? However, any prompt involving, say, lyrics from Eminem and Rihanna's "Love The Way You Lie" is probably not appropriate in terms of tone. Unless it's the "guess that's why they call it WINDOW PANE" line, which will never stop being hilarious.

2. Prompt format should go thus:

If he’d thought about it earlier, he would have expected it to start with the sword. Not that it didn’t get there, but still. Barring that, he would have expected it to end with the sword, but it didn’t do that either. Mostly, in retrospect, what the whole debacle proved was that girls were more trouble than they were worth and Morgana was nothing but a pain, which he was fairly certain he’d learned on several occasions but somehow still never failed to surprise him.

It started while they were out riding. It was a stupid moment, really; he’d gone out because his father wanted to make sure the outlying towns hadn’t lost too much after a rather brutal thunderstorm, and Morgana had gone with him because she was Morgana and this was just her sort of thing.

There was a tree in the road. He’d walked his horse around it; she’d nudged hers into a canter and jumped it, turning to him with that superior look on her face. He didn’t go back - that would have been actively childish - but on the way home, he had his horse jump it, too. She just gave him that look again and suggested that he work on his posture.

He’d have liked to think he was above escalating the situation, and he knew she would too. Somehow it happened anyway, just like it always did.

After he beat her to the stables on their way back (they both did their best to race without appearing to do so), he was hardly surprised to see her waiting for him in the practice yards with a sword in her hand an hour later. They fought four matches and each won two, leaving them still even.

The problem was, of course, that they couldn’t let it rest and there were very few other fields on which they could compete.

The nice thing about this was that Arthur had any number of more useful skills, whereas Morgana’s activities were far more limited. The bad thing about this was that Morgana was Morgana.

It eventually came to a quarrel - it always did. Even as Arthur was walking with her down the corridor to his chambers, smugly listing all the things he could do that she couldn’t, she just strode gracefully beside him with a serene smile on her face.

“If you’re quite finished,” she told him, “there’s something I can do better than you can, and it’s something you really couldn’t accept being inferior at.”

Because apparently she thought he was deeply concerned with how good he was at having his hair brushed. “And what’s that?”

She smiled a wily little smile up at him. “I’m a better kisser than you are.”

He tripped over his own feet and she laughed.

“You are not,” he managed, once he had re-gathered some dignity and caught up with her.

“Oh, really?”

“Yes, really.”

“You’re willing to put it to the test, are you?”

“Absolutely,” he said. He was pretty sure that the reason he could feel his heart swinging against his throat like a cudgel was fury.

She smirked and swept past him into his rooms, all smooth silk and ruby lips and long dark hair, and he was definitely totally absolutely sure it was fury.

He walked in after her and dropped his sword in shock. She was kissing Merlin. Merlin, who was still holding an oil rag he’d been using to go over one of Arthur’s jackets, who was standing with his limbs akimbo in shock, who was turning red starting with his ears and spreading all over his face, who was kissing Morgana and it wasn’t fair.

“What do you think you’re doing?” Arthur sputtered.

Merlin, predictably, fell over. Morgana just smirked at Arthur over her shoulder. “Well, I could hardly kiss you, could I? We need an objective judge.” Merlin was picking himself up and looking as if he wasn’t sure whether to be more terrified of finding out what was going on or being left in the dark. Morgana gestured toward him and smirked at Arthur. “Your turn.”

Arthur met Merlin’s eyes just as the implication sank in for both of them. “Morgana! No!”

Her grin widened. “You concede, then?”

“No! But all this proves is that you’re better at kissing men.” He glanced at Merlin. “And I use that word loosely. Very loosely. If we were competing to see who was better at kissing women, I would win!”

Morgana didn’t even pause, she just strode to the door and stuck her head into the hallway. “Gwen? Gwen! Could you come here, please?”

Arthur was pretty sure, whoever the better kisser turned out to be, that he had already lost.
